Do It Yourself Weddings - Don't Do It

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

When it comes to weddings these days, many people are looking to save money and stay within a budget. There are a lot of brides that are choosing Do-it-yourself or "DIY" options when it comes to the centerpieces, wedding favors, and even the flowers. While a DIY wedding would seem to offer a romantic chance to personalize your wedding on a budget, many brides do not consider the actual logistics of attempting to take on some of the crafts that have been perfected by professionals in the industry.

Brides are constantly bombarded with artistically photographed images on the internet of DIY wedding receptions in which the homemade centerpieces and unique wedding favors are perfectly personalized and everything looks amazing. However, what the internet can not show you is how much time, stress, and tears these projects actually took to complete. The effort involved in DIY wedding projects is not usually taken into consideration when you are pouring through DIY wedding ideas in bridal magazines. For those brides who have never tried to plan a wedding before, the planning process can easily become overwhelming and stressful with everything that needs to be done. Adding extra projects to the process of planning your wedding is simply not a good idea in most cases unless the bride has lots of help.

Have you ever had an idea for a project in your head that seems perfect, and when you actually sit down to do it things don't come out looking like they did in your head? This is what often happens with DIY projects. When it comes to a wedding, you can't have things as important as the flowers or wedding favors looking anything but breathtaking. Figuring out how to make your ideas come to life takes some experimentation. You go out and purchase all the supplies to create your crafty DIY project hoping to save some money in the end, but by the end of the first attempt half of your supplies have been used up just in the experimenting phase. Now you have to go spend more money on more supplies so that you have enough decorations for your reception, and suddenly your homemade centerpieces are costing more than if you had them made professionally. In some cases, the idea never quite looks right in reality and then a bride ends up completely giving up and paying retail anyway just to be done with it.

Your time is worth money! Especially during the wedding planning process when almost everything has to be done by the bride and can't be delegated. Don't underestimate how valuable your time is during this stressful planning process in which there will be appointments to keep, dresses to pick out, and decisions to be made. While DIY projects may seem to be cheaper if you are looking at the retail price tag alone, when you factor in the time it will take you to complete something like 100-150 wedding favors for your guests, you might be better off just purchasing the favors and using your time to do something else. After all, cheap wedding favors are surprisingly abundant, and you can often find beautiful favors for under $1.00 each! You have to ask yourself if it is really worth the hassle of making all those favors to save a few cents each when you can easily purchase them completely finished from a website and check that off of your to-do list.

DIY wedding ideas are everywhere, but you have to beware of taking on extra projects while your plate is already full with wedding planning. By the time you factor in the cost of supplies, the cost of trial-and-error, and the time it will take to complete, you are often better off leaving the wedding accessories to the professionals. Don't get sucked into the beautiful pictures and the romanticized DIY ideas in bridal magazines unless you have plenty of help and extra time to complete things like wedding favors or centerpieces before your big day.

Visit http://expressweddingfavors.com/ for affordable wedding favors that will compliment any occasion. Express Wedding Favors will deliver unique favors right to your door in time for your big event.

Wedding Photography: How to Choose the Right Wedding Photographer for Your Big Day?

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Your wedding day will be one of the most important and memorable days in your life. Finding the right wedding photographer will help you to capture all of the precious moments of your big day. Begin your photography research early to ensure that you get the best professional at the best price for your wedding portraits.

Start Now

Professional wedding photographers can find their schedules booked up months in advance. This means that it's important for you to start looking for a wedding photographer for your wedding right now. Once you've located the photographer you want to hire, pay their advance deposit fee to lock them in for your wedding date. Many people plan their weddings more than a year ahead of time, so it is never too early to begin looking for your photographer.

Style Match

Photographers come in as many different styles as any other element in your wedding. Some favour modern photographer with stark shots against blurred backgrounds. Others photograph in traditional styles and recognizable set-ups. Some old school photographers continue to rely on film, while most photographers have moved to digital equipment. And some professionals prefer pre-planned shots versus taking spontaneous pictures. Give a lot of time and thought to the types of pictures you would like from your big day and ensure your chosen photographer can meet your expectations.

Experience Matters

Anyone can pick up a camera and take a picture. But not everyone can take a good picture, and that is the distinction between professional wedding photography and pictures taken by amateurs. Before selecting your wedding photographer, learn about their background and experience. Have they studied photography and composition through a school or training course? How long have they been working as a photographer? Do they have experience with weddings? Bear in mind that more experience tends to mean higher pay when you hire a wedding photographer.

What's in a Package?

Many wedding photographer 's package offerings together to make it easier for their clients to select what they want ahead of time. While this may mean that you save money while grouping together different shots or prints, it may also mean that you need to work with the photographer to get exactly what you want and at a price that is agreed upon ahead of time. As you work to finalise arrangements, discuss all of your expectations and create a written plan for your big day.

When you mix the right combination of experience, expectations and price, you'll be able to enjoy your wedding photography for a lifetime!

Hosting Your Wedding at a Unique Venue in MA Sets Your Wedding Apart From the Rest

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Many couples planning their wedding in MA are often searching for a unique space to host their ceremony and reception. I wanted to take some time and interview one of the most unique spaces I've seen so far, Oceans Explorium at New Bedford Seaport in MA. Abbey Sparro, the Education and Events Coordinator at Oceans Explorium took some time to introduce us to this truly creative wedding venue.

For anyone who hasn't had the chance to visit you, what would guests expect to see and experience at the Ocean Explorium?

Ocean Explorium: One's first impression upon entering the Ocean Explorium is the magnificent space - the former New Bedford Institution for Savings Bank lobby is a marble-lined Great Hall with soaring ceiling and fabulous arched windows. Second - the exhibits, with a 24 sq ft Blue Ocean Cube surrounded with aquaria and media booths. To the right, a cluster of touch tanks invites interaction. End-wall murals by famed local artist Arthur Moniz depict a Salt Marsh and the Working Waterfront of New Bedford harbor. A winding marble stair, exquisite etched vault doors and opulent architectural appointments make this space very special.

Ocean Explorium is such a unique and creative venue for a wedding. Can you describe the space available for couples to use either for their ceremony, cocktail hour or reception?

OE: The Great Hall can be configured in a number of ways: for instance, guests are seated before the Salt Marsh mural as the bride descends the marble stairs for the ceremony. The reception begins with cocktails at the Ray and Shark touch tank, followed by dinner in the adjacent Education Center. Finally, all return to the Great Hall for dancing.

What sort of access do guests have to the living exhibits at Ocean Explorium and what sort of staff is needed to be there at the time of their wedding?

OE: Generally, staff and volunteers are on hand for all events. Guests are welcome to mingle amid the exhibits. Ocean Explorium educators interpret the touch tanks for guests while volunteers are available for logistical support.

What can a couple expect from Ocean Explorium in terms of help planning their wedding?

OE: Abbey Spargo or her designee will meet with the couple to help them create a memorable event. The Ocean Explorium offers a number of options and additional services, while Russell Morin Fine Catering provides food and beverage guidance and can advise on event rentals.

Are couples able to have a dance floor and live band or DJ at Ocean Explorium?

OE: Absolutely! We have hosted individual and groups of singers, jazz combos and a blues band. Any professional musician or D.J. can set up a sound system to work in our space.

Are there any additional items that the couple might need to rent? For example, are tables, chairs, linens, china etc. included with your location?

OE: The Ocean Explorium has padded folding chairs for a ceremony if requested only. Anything else would have to be provided or rented, either through the caterer or an event rental vendor.

Ocean Explorium has an exclusive partnership with caterer, Russell Morin Fine Catering. What have been some reviews that you've heard back from couples on how easy they are to work with? Do you often have couples request to bring their own caterer and what is your reply?

OE: Our relationship with Russell Morin Fine Catering is advantageous because of their depth of experience and breadth of offerings. Their staff works with couples to ensure everything is perfect. This arrangement does not permit exceptions for social events.

Give us one of your favorite memories of working with a couple to plan their wedding with you.

OE: We had a great deal of fun working with a couple who wanted a slide show of photos from their courtship projected on our focal exhibit, the Science on a Sphere?. Guests can sit in the Blue Ocean Cube and enjoy the show, creating another level of sharing and celebration.

What has been the feedback from couples and their guests about having their wedding in such a unique space?

OE: We have had a great many wonderful comments, especially from guests who had never been to the Ocean Explorium and did not know quite what to expect! Most say they plan to return with their children and their grandchildren.

What advice would you give couples planning their wedding in a creative venue, either at Ocean Explorium or anywhere else that's not your typical reception hall?

OE: We like to think we offer almost everything a couple could need - something old, something new, and something blue!

The bottom line is - it is your day! As long as your guests are comfortable and have something to eat and drink, the theme and decor are whatever you want them to be. So why not surround your friends and family with life - beautiful, graceful, colorful life!

Budget is a major consideration for most couples planning their wedding. How do you work with various budget limitations?

OE: Cost is a consideration for everyone, and we are happy to work with a couple to realize their dreams. In addition, Russell Morin Fine Catering can tailor their menus and levels of service to suit the couple's taste and budget.

Russell Morin also offers cost savings for couples who book two or more wedding-related events at the Ocean Explorium, the New Bedford Whaling Museum and/or Shining Tides in Mattapoisett - a package deal for your showers, brunches, rehearsal dinners, weddings and receptions!

Follow the Trends for 2012: Discover the Best Wedding Ideas

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Are you in search of wedding ideas? We have countless available for you to select from. The latest trends in weddings are affordable and tres chic. Here are several wedding ideas that will have people talking about your event for many years to come:

1. Trends in Wedding Dresses

According to Zankyou website, Victorian wedding dresses are the new trend for 2012. Brides are taking the Victorian theme to the next level. Dresses are featuring high necklines, chokers and corsets. The skirts are full and long.

Instead of fancy designer heels, brides are wearing Victorian-style, lace-up booties. The trends are formal and elaborate. Because the dresses are so elaborate, many brides are opting for a second, more casual dress for the reception party. This dress is typically more modern, fun and playful. The hem-line is shorter for the reception dress.

Women are embracing the trends as if they were inspired by Carrie in her fashion photo shoot in Sex in the City. Perhaps, it is simply our recession woes. Whatever the reason, these brides have transformed and transported the Victorian-era into year 2012, and these wedding ideas for dresses are attractive and appealing.

2. Trends in Wedding Colors

In 2011, brides used many bold colors for their wedding parties. In 2012, the same bold colors carried over and some neutral colors also stepped onto the scene. Bridesmaids' dresses and bouquets featured colors such as: Lavender, Silver Cloud, Pink Peony, Peapod, Beeswax, Coral Rose, Regatta, Blue Curacao, Russet and Honeysuckle. Ivories are also incorporated into the color palette by adding pearls, sashes and other accessories to complement the primary colors.

Even brides' dresses are being featured in some of these colors for 2012 weddings. Brides are tired of the same old white dress and would like to be featured in a dress with a hint of color. Designers are assisting brides with this request.

The colors set a mood for the wedding soiree. Pinks and sunny yellows paint a playful, cheerful and upbeat mood. Pale blues, beiges and neutral grays communicate a more tranquil and peaceful mood to guests of the event. Colors play a huge role in the entire theme and elegance of the 2012 weddings.

When selecting wedding ideas, brides should consider the colors and the event venue. An outdoor, daytime reception may work best with bright and cheerful colors. While another venue, such as a country wedding, may work best with neutrals, yellows and browns. Follow the trends and select the best color scheme for your wedding.

3. Trends in Catering

From the main course to the desserts, food is becoming more of a work of art than in past years. Themed treats have been incorporated into a wedding affair. Groom's cakes are becoming as important and elaborate as the primary or bride's cake. Instead of just a cake, full dessert tables are planned. Petit fours, cupcakes, candies, pies, chocolates and cookies are all being featured on these elaborate dessert tables.

The trend has been towards providing more variety of gourmet sweet treats that truly melt in the mouth. Brides following this trend will not disappoint her guests. Everyone loves sweets, and many come to weddings simply to have one sinful day of indulgence and celebration.

It is not uncommon for brides to incorporate liquor tasting stations, coffee bars, juice bars, wine bars or cheese bars into the reception. Do you love ice cream? Why shouldn't you have an ice cream sundae bar or a sorbet bar? Guests love variety and will appreciate the effort put into providing delectable treats to make the affair special.

4. Trends in Wedding Themes

Whether the food is centered on pub-type sports food or a Caribbean-style affair, guests will enjoy themed-style weddings. Oscar-themed weddings and 1920s-style weddings are also common in 2012.

Wedding themes give the bride a framework to work within. Sometimes planning a wedding seems daunting without a general theme, brides choose themes because it helps them bring a more cohesive event and plan to life. Themes also reveal something about the bride and groom's personalities or dating history together. If you and your significant other went to numerous sporting events together, a sports-themed wedding reception may be ideal.

Now you can create a personalized wedding website with our easy "drag and drop" tools in as little as five minutes. JoinTheWedding offers you wedding website templates that you can customize with ease. Visit us and start planning your perfect wedding now!

Tissue Paper Pom Poms: Party Decoration Tips

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Pom Poms can bring a new energy and vitality to any room or event. While traditionally used for weddings and parties, they can realistically be adapted to any environment. All it takes is careful consideration of colour, consistency and prominence.

Whether you're organising a wedding or child's birthday party or simply decorating a nursery, the following tips will get you started on the rewarding path to DIY home decoration.

Keep it varied.

Pom poms often work best in clusters, positioned in a seemingly natural and "wild" sequence. (Think native flowers, clouds, patches of pollen, bunches of grapes or floating balloons.) Combine this with a variety of sizes and there will be no end to the decorative possibilities.

Try mixing and matching your pom poms with hanging paper lanterns of the same (or a similar or compatible) colour. The results are rarely anything short of stunning.

When to choose a single colour:

One colour is ideal for a formal occasion, particularly weddings (generally all white or pink) or milestone birthday parties or anniversaries. These will bring a celebratory but dignified atmosphere, lifting the mood on a practically subconscious level.

By no means should this be seen as stifling creativity. Placement, size and colour choice are usually more than enough to keep any decorator busy!

When to choose multiple colours:

Multiple shades of a single colour can be an ideal compromise between variety and consistency. This is particularly effective for pale and vivid pinks, which blend together brilliantly, bringing new vibrancy and energy to your wedding, nursery or baby shower.

If you're choosing more drastically different colours, a colour wheel can be a fantastic shortcut for finding naturally, timelessly compatible colour schemes. (Chances are you'll find one at your local paint or hardware shop, although there are plenty of easy online alternatives.) It's also a great crash course in design aesthetics - after a few short minutes, you may find yourself developing a much keener eye for colour!

One common mistake is to get caught in the awkward middle ground between controlled and frenzied colour schemes. Two colours will keep your overall look fun, varied and thematically appropriate. On the other end of the spectrum, a full rainbow colour scheme (at least 5-6 colours) can look spectacular. Anything in between, though, and you may find your pom pom clusters looking chaotic and disorganised. Once you pass two colours, you'll generally need to go all the way.

There are, however, always exceptions. Always be willing to experiment - you just might surprise yourself!

Wedding Vendors: The Key to Planning Your Perfect Wedding

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Choosing the right wedding vendors for everything from photography to the cake to your wedding and reception venues hinges greatly on knowing which questions to ask. By gathering the important details early on, you'll be able to select reputable vendors who are able to deliver the promised goods and services on time in a quality way.

The first order of business when planning a wedding is choosing the sites for your wedding and reception. When you contact possible wedding sites, ask whether or not it is an option to hold the reception at the same location. Holding both functions at the same place eliminates potential problems and allows your guests to proceed a short distance from the ceremony to the party quickly.

Ask about the availability of dates and times. Find out how many people the venue can accommodate comfortably and what kind of parking is available. Ask about any restrictions as far as wedding photography and videography. Request a written checklist that details exactly what is part of the wedding package you choose.

Since you'll want photographs and video to remember your wedding day, it's essential that you choose a photographer and videographer with proven track records. You may be able to choose one company for both services. Ask to see samples of their work and scrutinize it closely. Wedding images are something you'll treasure forever, and it's important that they're perfect.

Since flowers set the mood when it comes to the wedding day, choosing the right florist is imperative. Before contacting the florist, create a budget that includes a generous floral allowance, choose your wedding colors and determine your floral needs. Once you've gathered references and contacted a couple of florists, ask them to provide you with written estimates for their services.

Many couples find that choosing their wedding cake is one of the more pleasurable wedding planning tasks. Never select a wedding cake vendor without scheduling a tasting. Once you've had a chance to sample their confections, you'll be able to easily choose the one to provide the cake with the taste, texture and design that you prefer.

Last, but not least, is the music for your wedding. Whether you choose a harpist, DJ, pop band or choral group to provide your music, be aware of the mood and tone each option sets. Ask whether or not the musicians have extensive experience with weddings and receptions, determine if they're open to allowing you to choose your own songs and find out their hourly rates.

When you deal with wedding vendors to plan your nuptials, check and double check that the ones you select are able and willing to provide the goods and services you need for the estimated price and then make your decision.

Selecting the perfect destination for your wedding is the key to planning the perfect wedding. wedding team is dedicated to arranging the perfect event for you and your guests in one of most magnificent settings. Get advice on how to tip all of your wedding vendors from Wedding.com.

How to Get the Right DJ For Your Event

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Let's say you are getting married and need a DJ to do the reception. You or someone you know is a friend of a DJ and refer to him or her to do the reception. Although this person may be good, he or she may only play Hip-Hop at nightclubs or bars. Your wedding reception could be a disaster. Unless you only want to hire them to play Hip-Hop.

In any public or private performance, the disc jockey's main responsibility is to please the audience. However, in most situations disc jockey's not only cater to the audience, but also to the client, club owner, management, or promoter. Of course compromises between these considerations and the disc jockey works best.

There are many different varieties of disc jockey's and with these varieties come a different set of circumstances or skills that would be a great enhancement for the type of event your having.

While some DJ's may only play a certain genre of music, other DJ's may only do weddings or battle competitions. Finally, there are some DJ's who immerse themselves in many aspects of the art of DJing like Las Vegas DJ's or Miami DJ's due to the entertainment aspect of such cities. For example, a champion battle DJ who devotes most his or her craft to scratching and doing tricks, may not be the DJ you want to hire for your wedding or club because, the battle DJ may not have devoted a lot of time to programming music. However, keep in mind, a DJ with a certain title like "battle DJ" or "mobile DJ" doesn't mean they can't produce the type of entertainment you're looking for. Just make sure that when you're searching for one, during the interview process, ask them about the type of events they have done in the past. This will not only help you match the best type of Dj for your event, but also help you with making the distinction between the DJ as an artist and as an employee.

Here is a list of a variety DJ types along with a description of the experience they may bring, along with their skill sets to help you make your choice. Good Luck!

Nightclub DJ - The nightclub is a venue where bands where bands were once used as the prime source of entertainment, now DJ's fill that role. This can involve having to play a variety of genres of music or specific style of music on certain nights or events. The club DJ has one objective, keep the dance floor full. A good club DJ has the skill of using the most popular songs with seemless mixing of non-stop music through the use of good programming, like most Las Vegas DJ's or Miami DJ's. Most club DJ's don't M/C because another crucial skill club DJ's must have is crowd gauging. Crucial because of the need to keep the dance floor full.

Rave DJ - This is a scenario where a DJ is brought in to play a specific style of music. In this case the DJ is hired as an artist to showcase their personal taste and abilities as a DJ and producer. The rave DJ usually doesn't M/C. As an artist the Rave DJ has fans, like world famous Tiesto for example, to which their main responsibility is to satisfy their fans.

Battle DJ - The battle DJ specializes in scratching, beat juggling, and other tricks, usually in competition with other DJ's, for money, sponsorship, or a title such as "Grand Master DJ". The battle DJ, in a sense, is more of a flashy kind of DJ. Of course due to the countless hours of practicing. Unfortunately, most battle DJ's don't concern themselves much with other aspects of DJing like M/Cing or programming.

Mobile DJ - Mobile DJ's are DJ's that are more dedicated to performing at weddings, corporate events, birthday's, etc. The mobile DJ is hired to play the kind of music that is appropriate for the event, as well as satisfy the clients musical taste, and M/C the event. The mobile Las Vegas DJ has a wide variety of experiences to satisfy the wide variety of crowds they encounter in the form of wedding receptions, for which there are plenty of in Las Vegas. The mobile DJ wears many hats in the field of entertainment because mobile DJ's usually have to help with the planning of an event. The mobile DJ is also more technically sound because they may have to use lighting, set-up sound systems, or troubleshoot any problems that may arise during a performance or prior to performing.

Bedroom DJ - This DJ is more concerned with just enjoying the music as a personal venture or hobby, as opposed to playing for an audience.
