Wedding Photography and the Digital Editing Process

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

From the onset of the digital generation, photo editing has become an affordable - and necessary - component of a photographers kit bag. It is no longer just a case of being able to take well composed and accurately exposed images, the modern wedding photographer also has to master the editing suite.

There are a myriad of software packages available, ranging in complexity, but all of them take some time and commitment to hone your skills. There are too many examples of poorly edited and unnatural wedding photo's because photographers have not spent the time and energy required to fully understand the digital editing process.

There is also a temptation within digital editing that 'if it can be done, it should be done' - where photographers will use a host of effects and filters which, when done sensitively, can yield good results, but when overdone make the image look... somehow awkward.

Digital editing, when done well however, does enable photographers to widen the range of styles they can produce. I find I can be flexible with clients and if there is a particular artistic style or ambiance they wish to create, and I can work with them of achieving this. This means that my wedding photography can vary dramatically between clients - with some preferring crisp, bright images and others liking the dreamy, muted tones of a vintage shoot.

This adds a whole extra dimension for my customers, one which, until meeting and talking to me they usually had not thought about. Their decision of which photographer to hire on the day now involves an assessment of their editing technique - something most people are not familiar with judging. At least, not on a conscious level.

I always advise my clients to put together a collage of images from wedding magazines, internet pages, or really any images where they are particularly drawn to the image. I can then sit down with them over a coffee and try and extract exactly what it is about a certain image that inspires them. Is it the composition, the colour range, the tonal quality, etc. I can then start to get a feel for exactly what my customers like, and can then mould my photography to suit them.

Wedding photography is one of the only forms of the art where the client and the models are the same people. As such, it adds a completely different dynamic to the relationship, and one which should not be misjudged. There should be an attempt to satisfy the clients desire for the final images. Something which is often overlooked in modern wedding photography.

For examples of different styles of photography, and other articles, see my Wedding Photography site.

Creative Wedding Invitations

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

The first great idea is to make your wedding invites rhyme. Rhyming wedding invites not only bring a smile to people's faces but it can also help with the slightly awkward wording of informing the guests about your gift list or requesting contributions to the honeymoon (if that is what you are doing). While it is now considered quite acceptable to do this, wording the request in a polite and un-pushy manner can be quite a challenge. Making your speech rhyme helps to solve that. Here's a few verses that can slot into your wedding invite or just use as inspiration to compose your own unique verses.

The date has been set

And we'd love you to come,

To our wedding in (place name),

A long way for some

All you must do,

Is decide what to wear,

Put on your jewellery,

Perhaps comb your hair

There will be music and food

And people you don't know,

Just please RSVP,

And pray it don't snow!

We've not done a wedding list,

For reasons which we'll explain,

But it will save you hassle,

As shopping can be a pain

We've lived together for quite a while

And already have a kettle and two toasters,

Our kitchen is filled with pots and pans,

Plus dinner plates and coasters

If you really do want to give a gift,

To help us celebrate,

Some money for our honeymoon,

Really would be great

Now please don't think we're cheeky,

Or that this comes from greed,

But we've lived together for quite a while,

And there's really not much we need

But obviously the most important thing,

Is the purpose of this request,

We'd love to see you on our special day,

As one of our wedding guests

This is just a short excerpt from a wedding invitation which I wrote sometime ago. Feel free to use it exactly as is, or add in a few verses of your own. You'll certainly receive compliments from your guests for the originality. You don't even need to make it this long. You could just address the wedding gift list issue through rhyme, and make the rest of the invite normal.

One other nice touch I have recently seen in a wedding invite is, in the RSVP, the couple had asked for you to recommend a song for the playlist for the wedding reception. This gets your guests involved and lets them all feel they are contributing. Plus, you can guarantee they will be straight up on the dance floor when their song is played!

This article is written by Greg Williams, author of the Rhyming Wedding speeches guides available at http://www.rhymingspeeches.com/. The guides help to make a wedding speech rhyme and include a huge number of example verses for the Groom, Best Man, Bride and Father of the Bride speeches. The site also includes a wedding blog aimed at men.

Should You Hire Or Perhaps Buy Your Wedding Or Special Occasion Interior Decoration?

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

When a lady gets married or even whenever a company hosts a sizable event they want every thing to look great without it all costing too much. One of the things that can cost the most is the decor for the venue. There's two options the event planner will have to look at, buying the decor and decor hire.

Buying your own decoration

Purchasing decor is not necessarily the most affordable choice though it will depend a great deal on the event the decor is being purchased for. If the event is going to be a recurring event then purchasing the decor the first time round and re-using it for subsequent events might save a great deal in decor hire expenses. Nevertheless, if the event is a once off event, buying the decor might cost more than hiring the very same decor would cost. Then there is the problem of having to source and get and set up the decor your self which you would not face if you hired it from a organization that specialises in event decor. You would likely have more freedom though as you are in complete control of the decor.

Decor hire

This really is generally the option that most once off event planners opt for. The decor hire choice is generally simpler and less expensive than buying the same decor. It also has a tendency to cause less trouble since it is the responsibility of the organization which rents the decor to you to set up and take down the decor before and after the big event. You also won't have to worry about storage for the decor as you simply have it returned to the company you hired it from. Obviously, if you are going to have the identical event a number of times over the course of a couple of years then it may work out cheaper to buy the decor and have it set up each time by your own staff. Once you hire decor you wind up paying a portion of the purchase cost as well as for the time it requires to setup and take down the actual decor.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both buying and leasing decor for your event. You are likely to need to take a look at the nature of your event and make your choice from there. If you require very special decor you might have no option but to buy it your self which means this would take the choice out of your hands to some extent. The generally rule of thumb would be to look at costs as well as chances of recurrence. If the price of hiring the decor is actually less than the cost of buying the decor for a once off event, then rent! If the price of buying the decor is actually less than the cost of frequently renting the actual decor for a recurring event, then buy! If you just think about your event logically the solution should make itself evident within a short period of time.

Avoiding Wedding Day Disaster Series: Alcohol Consumption Tips

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

I went in search of some wedding day disasters to see what wisdom and insight as a planner I could share. In other words, how would I help my clients to avoid the same mistakes that led to these wedding mishaps? When Googled, the first thing that came up was a bride that was arrested at her own wedding. Now, I'm sure many a bride and groom have gotten wasted at their reception, but just because it didn't end in an arrest doesn't mean that it still wasn't a disaster that could have been avoided. So, for the first in what I will make a weekly series, Avoiding Wedding Day Disasters, I present:

Disaster #1 the Bride got arrested!

The details aren't important except for one, the Bride drank way too much and, as a result, she went a little bonkers. She got upset when the bartender cut off liquor as the end of the reception approached (last call is a real law in most states including Pennsylvania) and threw stuff at her new husband (the kind that could leave a scar), to name a few infractions that landed her in the pokey on her wedding night.

We all know how crazy it can get when we drink a little too much (some certainly more than others). I have personally witnessed Brides and Grooms get into a little alcohol induced tiff by the end of the night simply because over indulgence tends to make some of us irrational and angry at, well nothing. I know you wanted to cut loose and have a great time at your reception but, think of this way; you've spent so much time, effort and, of course, money to create the perfect day and atmosphere most likely filled with sophistication and elegance. Getting yourself completely intoxicated could quickly negate all that hard work. So, how do you have fun, let loose but without it getting too out of control? Here's my advice:

Don't over indulge! Have fun and relax (maybe take any edge off with a drink or two) but do not over indulge. Do drink (you deserve it) but pace yourself. You don't want to start off your first morning of marriage with a hangover from hell!
Eat Carbs! Heck, eat in general. Many couples are so busy being the Bride and Groom, they forget to enjoy the food at their own wedding. One or two or three glasses of wine can quickly inebriate you when you drink on an empty stomach. While it won't prevent intoxication, it does slow the rate of absorption into your blood stream. As long as you have food in your stomach and pace yourself you'll be able to maintain a nice buzz without going overboard.
Let your wedding planner run some interference. If you know of a guest that does not handle their liquor well or gets a little too rowdy, you might want to make your wedding planner aware so that she can alert the bartender and staff to those particular guests (discretely, of course) The staff could somewhat manage the liquor intake of the guests without them even knowing it (like making their drinks just a little weaker) And,should a guest get out of hand, the wedding planner could defuse anything that might become an unfortunate incident.
Make it safe to drink! If you know that your guests will be the type that may over indulge, then make arrangements for discounts (or have your planner do so) for guests at a nearby hotel. Many offer weddings and their parties bulk rates. Pass this information on to guests in your invitations and encourage them to stay overnight. Some hotels even offer shuttle services (at additional costs) that will pick overnight guests up and bring them back safely to the hotel. Some areas of the country even offer services that will take people home in their own cars if they are drunk. No, seriously! Here is a link to the National Directory of Designated Driver Services. (and there is one available in Carbon County, PA!) Call or have your planner call to find out if such a service is available or how you can make one available for your guests.
Stick to Red & White Wine and Champagne Guests are less likely to drink those in quantities that would leave them inebriated and it will also help your wedding budget by cutting out hard liquor costs.

Wedding Survival Tips - The Groom's Check-List

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

With so much to organise, there's always a risk something might go wrong on your big day or in the lead-up to it. This fail-safe check-list will ensure it doesn't.

Dealing with last-minute nerves
Let's not beat around the bush. Getting married is one of the most nerve-wracking experiences of any man's life. As the big moment draws ever closer you will start to get more and more apprehensive.

This is totally normal. Anyone who doesn't feel nervous at getting hitched isn't human. But occasionally those nerves bubble over into panic.

To stay in control, think about how much you love your wife. Imagine how beautiful you are both going to look as a married couple. Remember what a great life you're going to have together. And think of what a wonderful party you're going to have with all your friends at the reception.

If that doesn't work then get some reassurance from your best man. Part of his job is to ensure your nerves don't get too frayed. A stiff drink might help. It's a tradition at most weddings nowadays for the groom and his best man and ushers to have a quick drink just before the ceremony. Brandy can work wonders in these situations.

Stay friends with your future in-laws
There's nothing like a wedding to strain inter-familial relations. Why do you think in-laws are often called out-laws? But things will go a lot more smoothly if you remain on good terms with your bride's parents. You're going to be spending every other Christmas for the rest of your life with these people, plus countless family weekends, so it's worth putting in the effort in advance.

Communicate regularly with them in the run-up to the wedding. Remember that your bride's father is probably paying for the lion's share of the wedding costs, so he deserves a bit of slack. (And don't get annoyed when he invites all his mates from the golf club.)

But the most important person is the bride's mother. Ultimately she is in charge: she will make all the key decisions on the ceremony and reception, even if your fianc??e thinks they are her own idea.

There will inevitably be times when your fiancee has altercations with her mother, and you may be asked to intervene. While this puts you in a tricky diplomatic situation, in the long run you'll be better off siding with the mother-in-law (even if you pretend you're actually siding with your future wife).

And whatever you do, don't forget to give both in-laws some very special presents at the reception. As well as thanking them profusely in your speech.

How to survive stag night stunts
Women have childbirth to deal with. Men have stag party humiliation. It's just a fact of life. You know that at some stage on your stag do you will face either utter public embarrassment or severe pain. Perhaps even a combination of the two.

You may get shaved or stripped. You'll certainly be forced to consume ridiculous amounts of alcohol. You will be the butt of many a practical joke.

Here's a great tip: tell everyone that you recently injured your thigh playing football. Strap a bandage around the thigh and underneath it secrete a ??50 note. Then even if your cruel friends abandon you somewhere with no wallet, no money and no phone, you will still have the means to survive.

First night as a married couple
With the exception of certain Amish communities, no one in the western world still gets married as a virgin. But while you may already be intimate with one another, that doesn't mean that your first night as a married couple can't still be the most romantic time of your life.

Most newly-weds book a luxury hotel for their first night. Make sure you get the honeymoon suite and don't spare any expense on all the extras. Order the finest Champagne, the most beautiful flowers, romantic music etc, etc. And don't drink so much at the reception that it all ends up being something of an anti-climax.

Breakfast the following morning should certainly be taken in bed.

What your wedding suit says about you
Morning suit: tailcoats are classic and stylish. While it means you're fairly traditional, it also means you like to do things properly.

Morning suit with top hat: pompous and a bit of a show-off. Even more so if you don white gloves and a cane. Just look at Chris Eubank.

Prince Edward-style suit: granted, it's very smart and not quite as traditional as a morning suit. But be wary of what colour you choose lest you end up looking like a footballer.

Lounge suit: modern, suave and not too sophisticated. Just make sure it's not the same suit you wear to the office.

Linen suit: cool and casual. Perfect if you're getting married in the Caribbean, but perhaps a little too informal for the UK.

Dinner suit: the sharpest suit of them all. But only appropriate if you're having an evening wedding.

Dealing with wedding drunks
Alcohol runs freely at wedding receptions and emotions are always running high. There's a good chance someone will imbibe too much and end up saying or doing something they later regret.

Your best man and ushers will help you with anyone who gets too out of hand. Initially it's best to lure them away from the bar. Rather than man-handling them, why not tell them there's an important telephone call at the main house or the hotel reception? Once you've got them away from the main party you can then ply them with coffee and persuade them to sober up.

Best stag party destinations
Thanks to cheap, short-haul air travel, there are now dozens of places to visit for stag parties. Some are glamorous and some are tacky. Here are 10 of the best:

1) London: more pubs, clubs, restaurants and casinos than in any other European city.
2) Newquay: surf capital of the UK and party capital of the West Country. Regular flights from London airports.
3) Brighton: all the sophistication of London without the prices. Plus a beach and a pier.
4) Nottingham: women outnumber men by four to one in this Midlands city, so there's no excuse for men not to party. For full effect, dress the stag up as Robin Hood.
5) Barcelona, Spain: If you can't enjoy a party on Las Ramblas then you may as well give up. What about a spot of bull-fighting?
6) Tallinn, Estonia: a major portion of this city's economy relies on visiting stag parties. Thanks to the Baltic hospitality, you'll quickly see how.
7) Berlin, Germany: When it comes to beer and nightclubs (both stag essentials), the Germans lead the way.
8) Amsterdam, Holland: With such a liberal attitude to nudity and narcotics, it's easy to see why this Dutch city is so popular for stag parties.
9) Prague, Czech Republic: party against the backdrop of one of Europe's most beautiful cities. Beware of the local spirit absinthe, however.
10) Dublin, Ireland: head for Temple Bar for some of the most convivial drinking spots you'll find anywhere in Europe. And be prepared for a lot of Guinness.

Creative Ways to Use Wedding Flowers

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Choosing the flowers for your wedding is perhaps the most important as well as a greatly exciting task you will come across while handling wedding preparations. In fact, you might even be surprised about how the choice of wedding flowers can make or break the decor of your wedding, since these significantly add to the elegance of the ambiance. Apart from the traditional requirement of flowers, it is surprising how these can be used in endlessly diverse ways to set make your wedding arrangements stand apart. From welcome gifts for the guests to the decor of the wedding transportation and from the bride's bouquet to floating arrangements for pools, there are plentiful urbane ways flowers for weddings can be used to their most.

Perhaps the best way to incorporate flowers in a wedding is to use them at the centre of attention: The bride. There, perceptibly, has to be an elegant bouquet to go with the bride's dress. You can, however, use flowers to accessorize the bride's hair if you intend to use a replacement for the traditional veil. Apart from this, there are several ways flowers can be used at the ceremony to enhance the atmosphere. A great idea is to embellish the ceremony entrance with urns filled with flowers. This is also a rather economical idea, since these urns can also be later used at the reception. Another great idea is to enhance the stage decor by using the traditional combination of candle and flowers. This will accentuate the decor, in case you want to keep it rustic. If you want to think out of the box and go for something different, you can use petal-decorated ribbons to highlight the stage. You can also place single roses to mark the seats of the immediate family members of the couple.

Wedding flowers can also be cleverly used at the reception. Flower bouquets, for instance, can be used on the buffet tables to add lavish decor. Goblets and cake knives can also be beautified by using flowers petals and ribbons. If you want to make the guests' tables attractive, you can use flowers and rocks in crystal centerpieces, alike for all tables. Several casual-appearing ideas can also be exploited. Simply sprinkling rose petals around, for instance, can do the trick for the adornment.

While creative ideas for wedding flowers never come to an end, it obviously has to be done in accordance with your requirements and your affordability scope. Randomly picked flowers without a specific theme can actually make the decor of your wedding look unpleasantly scattered, which is why it is essential to choose your florist cleverly. Since a wedding can be a rather hectic event to arrange, it is best to find the cheapest services available with amazing quality. You need to make use of great florists to purchase the best wedding flowers.

If you are looking for top-notch quality in the best prices, you can find talented and affordable florists here to purchase flowers for wedding.

Choosing a Wedding Celebrant

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

A wedding celebration takes a lot of preparation. There are so many aspects to think about-venues, receptions, menus, gowns, bridesmaids, rings, invitations and the list goes on. At the centre of it all, however, is the wedding ceremony, where you and your soon-to-be-spouse legally become husband and wife. It is one of the most important, although short-lived, hours of your entire wedding day. As a couple, you have to share it with another important participant-the celebrant.

Choosing the right celebrant services Perth is crucial. You are not working with shoes or flowers or recipes here. You are working with a person who will play the very important role of officiating your wedding ceremony. So do not wait until the last minute (i.e. two weeks before the wedding day) before you decide on a wedding celebrant. The best ones are almost always fully booked by the time the date of your wedding comes around the corner.

Finding Celebrant Services

Word of mouth marketing is the preferred mode of advertising in this industry, so ask around and see if your friends and family can recommend somebody they know personally. Other professionals in the wedding industry, such as photographers, wedding planners and bridal shop owners, are excellent sources of information as well. If you don't have any referrals, visit the Attorney-General's website and look into the Register of Marriage Celebrants. All celebrants listed are legally recognized under the Marriage Act 1961.

Meeting a Potential Wedding Celebrant

Contact the celebrant by phone and ask a few questions before initiating a face-to-face meeting with them. Important issues such as legal requirements and celebrant service fees should be discussed first before delving into the details of your wedding ceremony. If you find that you and the celebrant are on the same wavelength, schedule a meeting with him to further talk about what you need for your ceremony.

Treat this meeting like a job interview, where you and your partner are the hiring employees and the celebrant is applying for your opening. An important thing to remember is that a celebrant should be able to make you feel at ease and comfortable. He should also be able to understand your requirements for a wedding ceremony and provide them ultimately. Flexibility in conducting ceremonies is also something to look out for, especially for couples who want something more unique. Some of the more established celebrants may also be some of the more traditional.

If you are meeting a few other "applicants," don't be shy to tell this one, as long as you give him an exact date when to expect your response. There is business to take care of somewhere else and it is an act of courtesy to keep him informed of your decision.

Paying for Celebrant Services

The cost of celebrant services Perth depends upon your requirements and the experience of the celebrant. For example, a celebrant may charge additional fees for conducting in an out-of-town venue or for attending extra rehearsals than initially agreed upon. Length of stay in the business may also add to your costs. Generally, however, decent celebrant services are tagged somewhere in the range of $200 to $600.
